Haunting Words

Recently, I sat in a state meeting listening to our state leader talk about the Church. I must confess, as he spoke I had to squirm often. His words were so true, but I found them hard to hear. The church has been a big part of my life. I have given the majority of my 55 years to serving the church. Because of my love for the church it is always hard to hear something negative about the church. That day my state leader told us he believed that many Christians had lost God's heart for lost souls.

Those words have haunted me since I first heard them. They haunt me because I think they are true. I think it is true that by and large we do not share Christ with others. I think it is true that most "Christians" do not have a breaking heart for those lost souls we meet. We are not often compelled in our hearts to say or do anything that might help another find Jesus.

Those words have haunted me to the point that I am setting some new priorities in my life. They have changed my perspective of leading in the church. They have inspired me to work harder on sharing Jesus and less on those things that once were important.

I am grateful for those words. More grateful for a leader who was not afraid to say them in love. Maybe those words will begin to haunt you too. Maybe they will reshape your priorities. I hope so, because lost people matter to God.
